Who we are
This site (rastercat.com) is operated by RasterCat, a small game studio run by Richard Anton. This policy explains what personal information we collect through the site, why, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at info@rastercat.com.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you join our mailing list, we collect the email address you enter and the fact that you consented to receive email from us. That's the only information the site asks you for.
Information collected automatically to record your consent. Our email provider, EmailOctopus, records standard sign-up details when you subscribe — typically the date and time and the IP address you signed up from — so we have a record that consent was given (this is part of double opt-in).
Server logs. Our host, Vercel, serves the site and, like any web host, processes standard request logs (such as your IP address, the time of the request, and the page requested) to keep the site secure and reliable.
A theme preference. If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is saved in your own browser. It never leaves your device and is not used to identify you.
What we don't do
- No analytics. We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics or visitor-tracking service on our pages.
- No advertising or tracking cookies of our own, and no cross-site tracking that we set. (The embedded sign-up form is the one third-party exception — see below.)
- Self-hosted fonts. Our fonts are served from our own site, so simply reading a page sends nothing to a font provider.
- We never sell, rent, or share your email address or other personal information with anyone for their own marketing.
Third-party services
Providing the site means your browser communicates with a few service providers, which may receive your IP address as a normal part of serving a request:
- EmailOctopus — stores and sends our mailing list, and provides the sign-up form embedded on our pages. See EmailOctopus's privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosts and delivers the site. See Vercel's privacy policy.
- Google (via the sign-up form only). The EmailOctopus sign-up form loads some of its own resources — including web fonts and a reCAPTCHA anti-spam check — from Google. When the form loads, your browser contacts Google, which may receive your IP address and set cookies as part of reCAPTCHA. This applies to the form embed, not to the rest of our pages. See Google's privacy policy.
Why we use your information, and our legal basis
We use your email address to send you course news, launch and pre-sale notifications, and the occasional note when we ship a new game — and for nothing else. We process server logs to operate and secure the site.
For people in the EU/UK, our legal bases are your consent (for the mailing list) and our legitimate interests in running and securing the site.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, after which we delete it from the active list. Consent records and server logs are retained only as long as our providers' standard settings require.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe anytime — every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to withdraw consent or object to processing. To exercise any of these, email info@rastercat.com and we'll respond.
- EU/UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority.
- California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.
International transfers
Our providers (EmailOctopus, Vercel, and Google via the sign-up form) may process data in the United States or other countries. Where required, they rely on recognized safeguards for such transfers.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
